Case Study #8 – Communication Performance
Helping experienced professionals communicate with greater clarity and influence.
Because knowing your subject isn't enough if the message doesn't land.
At a Glance
Audience: Experienced professionals, managers and technical specialists
Focus: Presenting, facilitating and workplace communication
Format: Practical communication capability workshops
Application: Presentations, meetings, pitches and important conversations
Outcome: Clearer, more confident and more influential communication
Client Context
Experienced professionals are routinely expected to present ideas, influence decisions, facilitate meetings and communicate complex information. Most know their subject extremely well. Far fewer have been deliberately taught how to structure and deliver that communication effectively.
Challenge
Participants commonly reported challenges including:
overloading conversations with too much information
lacking a clear structure when presenting or pitching
difficulty thinking on their feet under pressure
inconsistent confidence in important conversations
presenting information rather than influencing an audience
struggling to generate genuine participation when facilitating groups
The result can be good ideas that don't land, meetings that create little engagement and missed opportunities to influence decisions.
Approach
Dan designed and facilitated The Art of Presenting & Facilitating as a practical communication-performance program.
Rather than focusing on presentation theory, participants practised how to:
structure ideas so they are easier to understand
communicate the essential message rather than every available detail
open presentations and conversations with greater impact
read the room and respond in real time
ask better questions
facilitate participation rather than dominate discussion
think more clearly when challenged
communicate with greater confidence and presence
Participants worked with real examples and received immediate feedback they could apply to their own workplace communication.
Results
The program gave participants practical frameworks they could immediately use in:
presentations
team meetings
client conversations
pitches
workshops
difficult conversations
leadership discussions
The biggest shift was not simply improved presentation technique.
Participants became more deliberate about what they wanted their audience to think, feel or do — and how their communication needed to create that outcome.
That turns communication from information transfer into a performance capability.
